Velusso X One More City 2019
This October Velusso managed the annual One More City ride, taking 30 riders from Amsterdam to Strasbourg over 720k. Now in its third year, One More City is an annual cycling campaign during Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) that moves from city to city, and is focused on raising funds for research into secondary breast cancer. Each year begins where the previous year’s ride ended. In 2018, the trip took place from Paris to Amsterdam in three days, and so this year the Dutch capital would be the starting destination for the 2019 adventure.
Velusso played a key role in making the ride possible. From sorting hotels to meticulous planning and a full recce, the trip was fully planned for the group. Alongside this our team was out on the road during the event providing assistance with mechanics, vehicles, food and drink stations and supportive words of encouragement each and every day.
Day 1 – Amsterdam – Wurfeld
The trip began in less than ideal weather conditions. However, a very wet start didn’t dampen spirits as the riders were keen to begin the ride and get out on the road. Setting off from Rapha Amsterdam the group made its way across flat roads and on ferries, taking in some of Hollands iconic canals. We also had the pleasure of welcoming professional Women’s WorldTour rider Hannah Ludwig of Canyon//SRAM who would join for the duration of the trip. One hundred and ninety kilometres later, we arrived at the first stop of Wurfeld.
Day 2 – Wurfeld to Bastogne
Cobbles and climbs summarised the second day of our adventure, offering the riders a true taste of Belgium. The route made its way across some incredible scenery, featuring some tricky and challenging terrain en route. Our peloton was offered up a taste of the roads ridden by the professionals tackling the Côte de Saint-Roch, featured in Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
Day 3 – Bastogne to Pont-à-Mousson
It was another wet outing for the group on the third day of the trip. The 167 kilometre route featured some long climbs that tested the legs, as the riders made their way through Luxembourg and finished in France. The less than perfect conditions didn’t hold the group back and the camaraderie between riders once again came to the fore with some incredibly strong rides on the day.
Day 4 – Pont-à-Mousson to Strasbourg
Incredible autumnal scenery greeted us on our fourth day on the road as we made our way from Pont-à-Mousson to our final destination of Strasbourg. Just short of 200 kilometres of beautiful riding and another fantastic day was had in the saddle to complete another hugely successful One More City ride.
A huge congratulations to all those who participated in this year’s One More City ride. It was a pleasure to support the event and we look forward to 2020.
